After 8 weeks
Your first short ballroom routine, start to finish.
Start from zero, and after 8 weeks you can dance a short, simple routine from the first step to the last. Most beginners start with the waltz, where the hold, the frame and the rise and fall are learned.

FAQ
Ballroom questions
Where can I take ballroom dance lessons in Montreal?
At Dance Studio "Quartier Latin", 1350 Rue Mazurette #404 in Montreal, with free parking. Alina Litvak, a two-time Canadian vice-champion who founded the studio in 2007 and has taught for 19 years, teaches ballroom in private lessons, group classes or both. Lessons are in English, French or Russian. Call 514-966-3736 for a free 15-minute consultation to plan your start.
Are ballroom lessons private or in a group?
Your choice: private lessons, group classes, or private lessons alongside a group class. Private lessons move at your pace with every correction yours. A group class lets you learn alongside others. Mixing both gets you the group and a private lesson to walk into class ready. We help you pick on the free 15-minute call.
Which ballroom dances do you teach?
Waltz and Viennese waltz, plus the five Latin dances of the ballroom world: cha cha, rumba, samba, jive and paso doble. "Ballroom dancing" is the umbrella for both families. The waltz is where ballroom technique starts, so most beginners begin there. Tell us your goal on the call and we'll suggest where to start.
What can a beginner dance after 8 weeks of ballroom lessons?
A short, simple routine, danced from start to finish. Most beginners start with the waltz, where the hold, the frame and the rise and fall are learned, and each lesson builds on the last. Your goal sets the plan: a first dance, a gala or your first competition. We map your first weeks on the free 15-minute call.
Do I need a partner for ballroom lessons?
No. Come alone or as a couple; no partner is needed to start. Alina teaches every lesson and class herself, and builds the plan around your goal, whether that is a first waltz, a wedding dance or a competition. Timing, balance and partner connection carry from one dance to the next, so nothing you learn first is wasted.
Can I learn a ballroom dance for my wedding?
Yes. The waltz is the classic wedding first dance: romantic, a moderate tempo, and even basic steps look impressive once you add the rise and fall. We build your first dance step by step on your song. See our wedding dance lessons for how couples prepare.
How do I start ballroom dance lessons?
Call 514-966-3736 for a free 15-minute consultation. Tell us your goal and your schedule, and we match you with the right start: a private lesson, a group class or both. Class times and session dates are confirmed on the call, and parking is free.
