How old do you have to be to begin taking lessons?
Quartier Latin accepts students of all ages! Group classes begin accepting students at the age of 4 years old. Private lessons are available for all ages.
Do I need a partner to take a class?
No, you do not need a partner to attend a group or private class. The instructor will dance with you throughout the lesson and work on improving your own personal skills.
What should I bring to a class?
Usual attire includes a form-fitting shirt and pants (or skirt for ladies) in the color black, as well as leather-soled dance shoes. A bottle of water is also recommended.
Where is Quartier Latin Dance Studio located?
We are at 1350 Rue Mazurette #404, Montreal, and most of our students drive. Free parking is available on site. Contact us for directions.
Do I need any dance experience to start?
Not at all! We welcome complete beginners. Alina personally teaches every class and is experienced in teaching people with zero dance background. She will guide you through every step.
How do I know which class is right for me?
Start with a free phone consultation. Tell us about your goals and any dance background, and we'll recommend the group class or private program that fits you best, and let you know where spots are open.
Wedding Dance
How many wedding dance lessons do we need?
Most couples take 4-8 private lessons over 1-2 months. However, this depends on your goals, the complexity of choreography you want, and your prior dance experience. We'll recommend a plan during your first consultation.
When should we start wedding dance lessons?
We recommend starting 2-3 months before your wedding date. This gives you enough time to learn and practice without feeling rushed. However, even if your wedding is sooner, we can create an accelerated program.
Can you choreograph a special wedding dance for us?
Absolutely! We can create a unique choreographed routine to your chosen song, whether you want something romantic and elegant or fun and upbeat. We'll work with your vision and skill level.
Do you offer wedding dance packages?
Yes, we offer wedding dance packages that include multiple lessons at a discounted rate. Packages can be customized for couples, father-daughter dances, mother-son dances, or combination packages.
What dance styles work best for wedding first dances?
Popular choices include Waltz for classic elegance, Rumba for romantic songs, Foxtrot for jazzy tunes, and Salsa or Bachata for Latin music. We'll help you choose based on your song and preferences.
Kids Dance Classes
What ages are your kids dance classes for?
Our kids program accepts children starting at age 4. We have age-appropriate classes for 4-6 year olds (Beginner), 7-14 year olds (Intermediate), and 13+ (Advanced) based on skill level.
What will my child learn in dance class?
Children learn fundamental Latin dance techniques, rhythm, musicality, coordination, and teamwork. They also develop confidence, discipline, and social skills through our structured program.
How often should my child take classes?
We recommend 1-2 classes per week for consistent progress. Students who attend regularly show faster improvement in technique and confidence.
Do you offer competition training for kids?
Yes! Our competition team is coached by Alina Litvak, a two-time Canadian vice-champion, North American bronze medalist, and Canadian World Championship representative with 19 years of teaching experience. Competitive training is available for dedicated students after about a year of regular classes.
Can parents watch the classes?
Parents are welcome to observe classes. We occasionally have parent viewing days and always invite parents to our showcases and performances.

How long does it take to move up a level?
Progression is based on a Quartier Latin instructor assessment or recommendation. The time varies based on your dedication, practice, and natural ability.
